Without doubt this is one of the best detailed Hawthorn Replicas ever built. Initially undertaken by Mike Hawthorn expert, Paul Roach, who has been building replcias os the 1958 world champion's Jaguars since 1988. Roach finished the Mk1 in correct and magnificent British Racing Green with Suede Green Connolly leather interior and matching Wilton carpets. The woodwork has been perfectly refinished in the correct Satin lacquer finish - as it should be - not gloss!
The specification includes a rebuilt rear axle with a 4.09:1 ratio as used by the ‘works’. The 3.4 Litre engine was fully rebuilt and also modified to full Hawthorn specification, featuring a very rare set of Twin SU carburetors.
The gearbox is the same close ratio four-speed (with overdrive) Moss unit and the front brakes were enlarged as per the original car VDU 881. The car features body-coloured wire wheels that have increased the overall track by two inches, stiffer suspension and a custom made exhaust manifold that replicates the one originally designed by the staff at the TT Garage in 1958. The attention to detail is further exemplified by the inclusion of other modifications that Hawthorn specified such as the aftermarket rear window demister, an auxiliary reversing lamp, Raydot spot lights and a period correct ‘Pye’ radio.
Now offered following a multi-year rebuild, it provides a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the very best recreations of Mike Hawthorn’s famous Mk1 Jaguar - and certainly delivers fantastic performance in the true spirit of the original.
